STEVE ROSENTHAL RETURNS TO PAUL DIETRICH GALLERY WITH NEW PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT: A SYMPHONY IN BRICK
CambridgeSeven Welcomes Award-Winning Photographer to the Paul Dietrich Gallery With Opening Reception + Artist Talk
WHO:
Steve Rosenthal is a nationally recognized architectural photographer who has spent decades capturing the nuance, structure, and vision of the work of many of New England’s most prominent and influential architects. A graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Rosenthal began his creative career more than 50 years ago at CambridgeSeven (formerly Cambridge Seven Associates) before exploring his passion for architecture from a new perspective – behind the lens of the camera.
WHAT:
A Symphony in Brick celebrates the architectural legacy of the shoe industry in the city of Haverhill, Massachusetts. Through striking visual storytelling, he documents his latest quest: chronicling the spectacular architectural artisanry born from a miraculous, single-year rebuilding of Haverhill’s entire shoe industry following an overnight fire in 1882 that had entirely leveled it. Rosenthal’s photographs capture the architectural wonder of the Washington Street Shoe District, one of the country’s most unique historic districts. Comprising 51 buildings, the district is characterized by its precision and artistry in Queen Anne and Italianate style brick design. Nearly a century after being rebuilt, the Washington Street Shoe District was officially recognized by placement on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
The exhibition is presented in collaboration with Historic New England, which has recently completed The Historic New England Center in Haverhill, a nexus of arts, culture, industry, and innovation, showcasing New England’s story and inspiring visitors from around the world.
A Symphony in Brick marks Rosenthal’s third solo presentation at the Paul Dietrich Gallery, representing a profound creative homecoming to where his professional career began as one of CambridgeSeven’s first employees in 1965.
