NASA: Sound Off - Workshop at Intl. Museum of Surgical Science

Calling all aspiring engineers and scientists! IMSS has partnered with the brilliant minds at NASA and will be hosting Sound Off, their latest STEM challenge, for a limited time! This experience is centered around acoustic engineering and the development of sound-proofing technologies that are used in aircraft and spacecraft. Join us for a fun day of building and experimenting before presenting your unique prototype! This is an exciting opportunity for students in 6th - 8th grade, and all you need to bring is a phone or tablet with a working speaker. (If you don’t have one on the day you come in, we’ll have you work with a group that does!) The cost is $25 to participate, and we will be using this fee to cover lunch, materials, and to compensate our educators. The educational activity runs from 9:30am-3:30pm with a 45 minute lunch around noon. Students will also have the opportunity to walk through the remainder of the museum and see our scientific artifacts, murals, and historic architecture! If you’re especially interested in the museum, we recommend planning to leave at 4pm rather than 3:30pm so that you can take extra time viewing the exhibits. The latest departure would be when the museum closes at 5pm (on November 11th, all students must arrive at 9am and leave at 3pm due to a private event). If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact [email protected].
