This August, over a century of Filipino song finds a home in Chicago — and you are invited in, no cover, no catch.
Presented by the Chicago Park District, Musika SamaSama Filipino Festival brings a free afternoon of world-class live music and cultural celebration to Eugene Field Park. This year's theme, The Great Filipino Songbook Remix, centers SamaSama Project's landmark concert tracing over a century of Filipino song — performed in Tagalog, Bisaya, Ilocano, Waray, Bicolano, and more — in honor of Buwan ng Wika, the Philippines' nationwide celebration of its languages. The program features classical Filipino music with Dr. Victor Asuncion and the FilAm Music Foundation, an Original Pilipino Music (OPM) and DJ set with DJ Rex Balcita, a live concert with Lou Ella Rose and SamaSama Project, and the BahaiDeals.com Dance Crew Contest open to all genres, all levels, and all backgrounds, with a $500 cash prize. The festival also features Filipino food, arts and crafts, kids' activities, and live music all afternoon. Free admission. All are welcome.
