Garland’s monthly live-music series brings free performances to the heart of downtown on the first Friday of every month — original artists performing their own work, not cover bands. The June show is a special one: it doubles as Jimmy Wallace’s Birthday Bash, headlined by Frank Hannon, founding member and lead guitarist of legendary rock band TESLA. Best known for his work in rock, Hannon’s wide-ranging musical life has taken him into blues, country, and folk, and across multiple solo albums. It’s a fitting show for Garland: Hannon performs alongside Jimmy Wallace, the Oak Cliff-born guitarist who has played alongside Stevie Ray Vaughan and Johnny Winter, owns Jimmy Wallace Guitars on the Downtown Square, and runs the Dallas International Guitar Festival — the world’s largest gathering of guitar enthusiasts.
