Dr. Jill A. Harrington, DSW, LCSW, MBA has been a practicing social worker for over 24 years and is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. She also maintains a small, active clinical counseling practice in the Washington DC area. Dr. Harrington earned her Doctorate in Social Work from The University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy & Practice, Philadelphia, PA. She is one of the first published authors on the subject of bereavement in U.S. military families and throughout her career has focused on
how trauma, loss, and bereavement intersect. Dr. Harrington has been very active in ADEC and is a seasoned presenter for workshops at the annual conference. She has served as a Board Member for the Association for Death Education & Counseling (ADEC) from 2011-2014, and as the past Program and Awards Chair at the ADEC annual conference Dr. Harrington is the creator and lead editor of the creative textbook, entitled, Superhero Grief: The Transformative Power of Loss (2021), published by Routledge, which she co-edited with Robert Neimeyer, PhD. (Dr. Bill Hoy is one of the contributing authors.) She is currently working on a Second Edition in the Series with her co-editor, Darcy L. Harris, PhD, with an expected publication date Fall 2025.
