This Event has Passed
This free event is a blend of a traditional Bon Dance celebration and a modern street festival with a commitment to strengthening ties between cultures and generations, and fostering wholesome fun, fellowship and community pride. Anchoring this event is a traditional Japanese Bon Dance, with musicians performing high up on a yagura (small stage on a 10'x10' tower) and dancers clad in yukata and happi coats dancing in unison in concentric circles around the yagura. The public is welcome to join in, sit back and enjoy the spectacle, or explore the many food and retail vendors in tents and food trucks. There are also educational displays and free activities for families to enjoy. This annual evening event runs from 5 pm to 10 pm, providing a safe, family-friendly summer evening for all to come out and enjoy. The University of Hawaii Manoa campus provides free parking and the event has shuttles running between the parking area and the event site with safe dropoff and pickup areas at our event site.
