The Golden Age of Finnish Art, spanning roughly 1880 to 1910, coincided with the national awakening of Finland which was at the time a duchy under the Russian Empire. Artists such as Helene Schjerfbeck, Ellen Thesleff, Akseli Gallen-Kallela, and Eliel Saarinen are among those who contributed to this singular period in art history. A discussion on these artists and others will be followed by music by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius.
