For generations, the United States has inspired composers from both within and beyond its borders, shaping works that reflect its landscapes, cultures, and evolving identity. The program highlights that influence. We begin with Antonín Dvorák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” a work shaped by his impressions of America’s musical traditions. We continue with Edward MacDowell’s Suite No. 2, “Indian Suite,” one of the earliest major orchestral works by an American composer. The evening concludes with a world premiere by MiraCosta College Symphony Orchestra’s composer-in-residence, Christoph Rayburn—an original piece written to commemorate this historic anniversary. We hope you’ll join us for this special celebration of American music.
