Minnette Lehman Malka! Painting Show Closing Remarks
San Francisco visual artist Minnette Lehman, 96, is having her first painting show, up now at Adobe Books at 3130 24th St. She will be present to give end of show closing remarks about her life and art process on Friday, March 7th, 2025 at 7pm.
Lehmann attended UC Berkeley from 1945-1949, where she studied Sociology and was active in the student movement opposing the Loyalty Oath. She both studied and later taught photography at the San Francisco Art Institute. She photographed the SF State Student Strike, Bay Area couples in their homes, and naked portraits. She has worked in graphic collage and was active in the feminist performance artist movement of the 80s and 90s.
Says Lehmann, “Painting requires a meditative focus, and within that entitled zone I make paintings that are in dialogue with other artists, strangers, and my other paintings. My work is about recognition of conflict and hope of resolution in the daily process of living.”
