Mental Filmness Presents Short Films By Chicagoland Filmmakers

Please join us for the sixth annual season of Mental Filmness, a Chicago-based film festival about mental health! This year we are screening a very special showcase of Chicagoland-based short films about mental health with many local filmmakers in attendance. Friday evening's programming will include: Little Things Are Scary (dir. Sean Pierce, 5 min.) - A short film that toys with what we instill in our children and the hollow comforts of thinking small. Scroll Food (dir. Jason H. Bonner, 14 min.) - Set against the backdrop of the pandemic, “Scroll Food” tells the story of Derrick Loomis, quarantining at home alone, absorbing a smorgasbord of social media posts being spread online. His mental health begins to suffer due to his inability to put down his phone and “disconnect” from the world while he also deals with his own personal demons and depression. Patient (dir. Lori Felker, 20 min.) - Fiction, reality, the private, and the performed overlap on a routine but emotional day at a medical center. Bobby (dir. Cortez Mack, 9 min.) - A story about a 40 year old black man suffering from mental illness. Thirty Days (dir. Lomai, 21 min.) - A short film highlighting the challenges and accomplishments of a young woman's first thirty days sober. Filmmaking discussion panel to tentatively include: Sean Pierce, Jason H. Bonner & David Leonard, Lori Felker, Cortez Mack, and Lomai
