Lucy Kim: Mutant Optics

In Mutant Optics at the Henry, Lucy Kim collaborated with MIT, Harvard, and the National Autonomous University of Mexico todevelop a printing process using genetically modified bacteria to produce melanin on paper. This exhibition features melanin prints of vanilla beans and plants, exploring bioengineering, racial constructs, and colonial legacies. Kim’s large-scale, layered prints create perceptual glitches, connecting botanical printmaking with modern science.
