Cranford United Methodist Church has long been known as Lorton’s hometown church. Originally established as Lewis Chapel in 1857, the current church was built in 1900 by the Cranford, Wiley and Trice families and has served decades of Lorton families. The classic white steeple church at the corner of Old Colchester and Gunston Roads is actively promoting our neighbors to “rethink church.”
This year we are honored to celebrate our 125th Anniversary with a weekend of events:
Saturday, October 11 | 12:00–5:00 PM (Rain or Shine)
• Open House & Community Celebration
• Local vendors, arts and crafts, fresh produce, food, and music
• Family activities including a bounce house, pony rides, games, and more
• Historical talks and displays, including results from our Ground Penetrating Radar project to identify and honor previously unmarked graves
• Special remarks and presentations at 3:00 PM
Sunday, October 12 | 10:30 AM–1:00 PM
• Opening of the Year 2000 Time Capsule (10:30 AM)
• Special Anniversary Worship Service (11:00 AM)
• Community Potluck Luncheon with time capsule viewing (12:00 PM)
With great pride and humble respect, we invite you to join us for this milestone occasion. Cranford has marked each anniversary celebration since our centennial, and we have been honored to welcome representatives from local, state, and federal government in past years.
This is a special opportunity for the Lorton community to come together in fellowship, history, and celebration.
