Local 24-Hour Run to Erase Medical Debt

Andrew Whitson, a local endurance runner from Madeira, will run nonstop for 24 hours at the Madeira High School track beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025. The goal is to raise funds to relieve medical debt, with donors pledging a donation for every mile he can run within the time frame. The more he can run, the more gets donated to the non-profit, Undue Medical Debt. Undue Medical Debt purchases debt from large, bundled portfolios, where they get a steep discount due to buying in bulk. On average, every dollar donated to this organization erases $100 of medical debt. With almost half of Americans facing debt due to medical reasons, it’s one of the most severe economic issues this country is facing. The event will start at 8 a.m. on July 19 and conclude at 8 a.m. the following day, July 20. Whitson’s campaign invites supporters to attend the event, follow along virtually, and pledge contributions via Pledge It, where the total mileage will be updated live. Whitson, a Madeira local and recent graduate from Miami University, started running several years ago to lose weight. In a matter of a few years, he went from suffering from obesity to completing marathons and ultra-marathons. Now, he wishes to use his running to make positive change and inspire others.
