About the partnership
Goals: The Redwood-Rotary collaboration aims to create a "closed-loop" domestic supply chain for lithium-ion batteries, reducing reliance on newly mined materials and overseas supply chains. Redwood Materials can recover more than 95% of the valuable metals from old electronics.
Process: Redwood provides the collection barrels and materials, and Rotary clubs organize and host the events. Redwood handles the logistics of shipping the materials to its recycling facilities.
History: The collaboration began with pilot projects in California in 2022 and has since expanded to dozens of events nationwide.
Tucson Verde Rotary Club: This local club is Arizona's first environmentally focused Rotary club. The lithium-ion battery collection is one of many environmental projects they undertake.
