Leaf Rubbing Activity

Date Thursday, April 18-Sunday, April 21, 2024 Time 10 AM-4 PM Location NUMU | 106 E. Main Street, Los Gatos, CA, 95030 Cost Free with standard admission This Earth Day weekend, we invite visitors back into our MakerSpace to learn the art method of frottage in leaf rubbings. Through this activity, you will explore nature’s textures and patterns using crayon and paper. Artists use this technique to add natural, visual texture to their works. Visit our MakerSpace during museum open hours, April 18-21, to make art with a one-of-a-kind floral flare! Artists of all levels are welcome to join and materials will be provided, free with admission. This activity draws on themes from NUMU’s current exhibition, the lost ones: iterations and murmurs. What stories can you tell with the help of Mother Nature? What is frottage? Frottage is a technique where crayons or other materials are rubbed against a piece of paper over a textured surface, to capture the texture. “Frottage” comes from the French “frotter,” meaning “to rub.” Learn more.
