Lavender Daze at Groovy Plants Ranch

Lavender, the beloved fragrant purple herb, will be celebrated at “Lavender Daze” at Groovy Plants Ranch, Friday May 30 through June 1, 2025. The three-day event features a Maker’s Market of lavender products, food trucks, and 1,000 premium lavender plants all grown on site at this destination plant store and nursery. “Lavender is an exceptional plant for a full sun location,” says Deb Knapke, a GPR Ranch Hand who wrote her master’s thesis on Lavender. “It is a superb pollinator, while not being attractive to deer or rabbits. Its silvery presence shines in the garden mid-spring through December with blue-violet to lavender blooms in June, July and August.” While the plant is native to hot, dry Mediterranean climates, Jared says the event will showcase varieties that thrive in the Midwest. “We’re growing several regional favorites like ‘Hidcote,’ ‘Munstead’ and ‘Spanish,’” says Jared. “The trick is to plant them on a slope or in gravely, well-drained soil.” “What more can you ask from a plant: loves a hot sunny location, has “ever-silver” leaves and blue flowers that offer a quick energizing fragrance-mental break during the day and has a long history of herbal use.” Says Deb. Groovy Plants Ranch is off I-71, just 30 miles north of Columbus. Founded in 2009, their retail business and nursery continue to expand and gain accolades, including the March cover story of Greenhouse Grower, Our Ohio magazine, and recently featured in Teresa Woodard's latest book, Garden to the Max! Recently, the Hughes added a brand new, extra-large parking lot to allow for easy shopping, with plenty of room, an upgraded and improved gift shop in the updated "Armadilla Villa," and working on the Holler Earth rock shop with 1000's of gems, crystals, & fossils. This plant experience includes a potting saloon with soil and a wide selection of containers to pot up plants. They live at the Ranch with their two young daughters and two Australian shepherds.
