Latino Screening Series: Spanish-language ‘Dracula’

In 1931, when filming wrapped for the day on Universal Horror’s Bela Lugosi “Dracula,” a second film crew used the same sets to shoot another version of the film at night - in Spanish. The Sidney Poitier New American Film School partners with Milagro Cinemas for a special screening of this rarely exhibited gem of early Latino cinema from a short-lived era when Hollywood catered to non-English-speaking audiences before the popularization of subtitles. Poitier Film School deputy director and Emmy Award-winning writer Peter Murrieta (“Wizards of Waverly Place,” “Mr. Iglesias”) introduces the film in conversation with writer, journalist and horror film historian Justina Bonilla. You may never get the chance to see this horror masterpiece on the big screen again! Seats are first come, first served. Reservations are available for a $2 fee, reservation link coming soon. Movie concessions available for purchase. Wednesday, June 18, 2025 6:30 p.m. - Panel Discussion 7:00 p.m. - Film Screening 8:45 p.m. - Discussion in lobby and lounge. Bar and light refreshments available until 10:00 p.m.
