Lamont Jazz Ensembles

Lamont small groups explore the canon of jazz and/or American popular music, as well as original student compositions and arrangements. Typically consisting of 4-7 players, small groups perform public concerts each quarter.
Gabriel Mervine has performed with people such as Natalie Cole, Christian McBride, The Clayton/Hamilton Orchestra, The Colorado Symphony, The Temptations, Terence Blanchard, Lettuce, Karl Denson, John Scofield, Hugh Jackman, Lonnie Smith, Russell Malone, The Who, Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley, Wycliff Gordon, Sean Jones, Roberta Gambarini, the Motet, and Houston Person while also building a strong freelance career playing everything from Mariachi to Mahler.
Peter John Stoltzman has performed and recorded with jazz luminaries such as Steve Gadd, Eddie Gomez, Allison Miller, Tia Fuller, and many more. He has worked at the highest levels of the industry in virtually every style, from recording contemporary classical music to headlining jazz festivals, making Hip Hop tracks at Warner Bros., and accompanying songwriters. In 2020, Peter founded Colorado Music Bridge, a nonprofit dedicated to modern music education and mentorship. He has a doctorate in Music and Human Learning from UT Austin, and has been teaching in Colorado since 2012.
