Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band March 3rd Matinee Concert: Storytelling Through Music
The Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band formed in 1999 at the request of the city of Lake Oswego to celebrate the millennium, but rather than a one-time performance, it has continued for 24 seasons, won a national award, and represented Oregon in Washington DC during the 75th anniversary year of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
The theme of this concert is Storytelling Through Music. There are many different forms of storytelling. Most people think immediately of books, plays, or movies as storytelling vehicles, but during this performance, the band will bring to life the stories of places, people, and events through melody, harmony, counterpoint, and rhythm. You will hear the folk dancing of Russian sailors, adventurers following Orcas, the history of the Appalachian mountains, the story of a con-man, the regimental display of a cavalry, Irish folktales, and the tale of a traveller, among others. John Williams' music from the movie "Catch Me If You Can" features our alto saxophone soloist, and we have our own Dixieland band featured in "Dixieland On Stage". It's the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon, enveloped in live music performed by a full concert band.
