Kurtis Brand is a contemplative artist, musician and mediation teacher who uses meditation and mindfulness as inspiration for his art. He is passionate about the environment and uses natural and sustainable materials whenever possible for his abstractions.
Kurtis lives and works in Connecticut.
For this show Kurtis will engage in a weeklong residency at the [gallery name] beginning February 5th and commencing on February 11th. The work will be based on the 7 chakras and will be multimedia in nature featuring one work of art in the color of the chakra for that day and one 30 minute musical composition based on the frequency of that chakra. Each day a new chakra work will be added to the existing work and will culminate on the 7th day with a musical composition featuring all 7 chakras in succession as well as the 7 completed art pieces presented in their entirety. After the musical performance/meditation on the 7th day there will be a meet and greet, Q&A and after-party.
The artwork created will be available for sale, please meet with Brand during non-silent work and meditation periods to discuss.
Brand will be on site for the entirety of the week meditating and creating the artwork and the sound pieces. He encourages anyone that desires to stop by and join him in collective meditation and or experiencing the creation of the work. This is set up by Brand as a mostly silent retreat during the meditations, sound pieces and the creation of the artworks.
The schedule listed will be as such, please respect the contemplative silent aspect of the residency when the artist is in meditation or creating the work. During meals, tea and breaks the public is encouraged to engage in conversation if desired.
