Key Financial Concerns of 2024: Retirement Planning, Taxes and the Election

Retirement brings unique financial challenges we don’t face during our working and accumulation years. When considering retirement, many people overlook taxes because they assume they will be paying less if they are earning less. The reality is that you may pay as much and possibly more taxes in retirement since income sources and tax rates can vary widely. However, with knowledge about tax rates, retirement income sources and their taxation, and the impact of retirement income on Medicare and other benefits, retirees can strategically plan on the timing and types of accounts to use during retirement. This program is intended to address many of the concerns at the top of mind for many investors, pre-retirees and retirees: future tax rates and tax policy and the impact on retirement, how recent legislation (SECURE Act 2.0) has changed retirement account income and estate planning, and how the upcoming election may affect the Market. Expect to learn: The window of opportunity IRA and 401K owners have to leverage historically low tax rates How to pay less taxes in retirement How to protect your retirement accounts, often your most significant asset, from potential tax rate increases Why retirement is often more expensive than your working years The four stages of retirement and the tax considerations for each phase Mistakes to avoid with your portfolio, health care and estate Taxation of Social Security income and how to avoid the Social Security “tax trap” How income tax can impact Medicare and other benefits Tax efficient strategies for IRAs, Roth IRAs and non-retirement accounts Tax considerations in estate planning How markets have performed historically in election years Does it matter which party controls the House and Senate? Should you make investment decisions based on possible new policy decisions? Do certain investment sectors perform better in an election year? As an investor, what should you focus on in an election year and beyond? Questions? Please contact Deborah Ferris at 585.935.5300 or [email protected]. Disclaimer: Please note that we are not selling or recommending specific investment plans or products. This seminar is educational in nature and intended to provide participants with information on retirement planning and tax mitigation strategies.
