Kauau Ruins - Coronado Historic Site Van Tour
Join us for a van trip to the Kauau Ruins (Coronado Historic Site) in Bernalillo. The Kauau Pueblo was the northernmost of the twelve villages visited by Vasquez de Coronado. The village was first settled around 1325 AD and had about 1200 inhabitants. We will do an outdoor 45 minute docent-led tour which includes going inside the Painted Kiva (accessed via a ladder). The path is approximately 1/4 mile lone. Paved walking paths and museum are ADA accessible. We'll have lunch in their ramadas that overlook the Rio Grande. Cost of tour is $5 per person. Please bring a sack lunch, water, bottle, sunscreen, hat, and weather-appropriate outerwear (if needed). Call the Los Lunas Museum at (505) 352-7720 to reserve your spot. Space is limited.
Schedule:
9:30 AM: Arrive at Los Lunas Museum and load van
9:45 - 10:45 AM: Drive to Coronado Historic Site
11:00 - 11:45 AM: Docent tour
12:00 - 1:30 PM: Lunch and free time at site
1:30 - 2:30 PM: Return to Los Lunas Museum
Note: Times may not be exact, it's possible we may return back as late as 3:00 PM.
