Justin Adams & Mauro Durante in Concert at Constellation Chicago

Justin Adams, acclaimed guitarist, producer, composer, and longtime Robert Plant collaborator, has deep experience in African traditions and post-punk grooves. Adams returns to Chicago in a new collaboration with Mauro Durante, one of the leading musicians in the pizzica style of folk music in Southern Italy and the leader of the Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino music ensemble. This organic collaboration between Adams and Durante stems from a concert led by Italian pianist Ludovico Einaudi, at the legendary Notte della Taranta music festival in Puglia, Italy where the two musicians first played together. Recognizing kindred spirits in the trance rhythms of Taranta which transcend “melancolia” or the blues. A recording session and a full album soon followed and ‘Still Moving’ was released in 2021 to much press and attention and many more concerts by the duo followed. In the past year, the duo has performed live at venues, festivals, and places such as NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts, Lincoln Center in NYC, WOMAD Festivals in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, and Big Ears Festival in TN. The two musicians have previously played in Chicago with other projects, but this concert on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 8:00 PM at Constellation Chicago will mark the duo’s debut performance in Chicago. Presented by People of Rhythm Productions and Constellation with support from the Istituto Italiano di Cultura Chicago. The project brought Adams to Chicago’s Millennium Park’s Music Without Borders series in 2009. He has also played Chicago several times with Robert Plant over the years. His work on many albums with the late singer Sinead O’Connor and bassist Jah Wobble was infused with the spirit of post-punk London, while his solo guitar album ‘Ribbons’ was cited by Songlines magazine among the top 50 albums of the past decade.
