In 2021, President Biden declared June 19th to be a National Holiday that signifies the freeing of all slaves in Texas in 1865, after the 1863 signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Prior to 2021, several communities around the nation observed & celebrated Juneteenth; this year marks the 4th year St John will be celebrating Juneteenth partnering with the City of Worthington; however, this year the celebration will be Saturday, June 15th. It is well documented that Worthington has always been a community that has supported African Americans’ quest for freedom and a better life. In fact, there are several Underground Railroad sites within our greater Worthington Community, which is an indication of Worthington’s rich history.
This event is FREE and open to the community!
