Juneteenth Celebration

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It marks the day, June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of slavery, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth celebrates African American freedom and achievement while encouraging continuous self-development and respect for all cultures. This is a jointly planned event between the Black Student Union (BSU) and the McFarland Equity Project, with sponsorship from the Village of McFarland. The purpose is to celebrate and acknowledge the history of Juneteenth through a community event. Through a shared meal, speakers, kids' activities, and more, this is a space for people to come together, learn, and celebrate the progress made towards equality while acknowledging the work that still needs to be done. There is no cost, except for purchases from the Quick Chef food truck, and freewill donations for the meal from Melly Mell's Soul Food, which will go to the BSU. All are welcome! Details: 11am - Start 12pm - 1pm - Lunch (Melly Mell's Soul Food) 1pm - Speakers and Presentations 3pm - End Ongoing - kids’ activities, music, and education
