Juneteenth Block Party in Downtown Tempe Celebrates Black Culture with Immersive Experiences
A lively celebration of Black culture featuring live performances, dance battles, immersive experiences, local food and drink, and community-centered programming will bring rhythm, flavor and soul to Downtown Tempe from 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday, June 19 at Centerpoint Plaza. The Juneteenth Block Party, presented by the Downtown Tempe Authority is a free, family-friendly event celebrating culture, creativity and community.
From powerful storytelling spaces to crowd-favorite entertainment and performances, the event promises to bring people together in meaningful and memorable ways. Attendees can look forward to:
• All night entertainment hosted by emcee DJ Rogers Jr. III with live DJs, musical performances, line dancing, a fashion show and more
• Pop-up roller skating rink where guests of all ages can rent skates and roll into the fun
• Storytellers on the Porch, an immersive experience featuring live conversations, guest speakers, stories and panels hosted by the Shoes Off Talk podcast
• Market featuring Black-owned businesses, creators and organizations featuring artwork, apparel, handmade goods and more
• Live hip-hop dance battles hosted by Furious Styles Dance Crew featuring high-energy performances and crowd-pleasing moments
• Spades tables, where participants can meet new people and enjoy some friendly competition
• Live art studio with six artists creating live works, allowing onlookers to experience the creative process in real time
• Family-friendly games, activities, entertainment and interactive experiences for guests of all ages
• Free photo booth fun that allows attendees to capture memories from the evening and send videos straight to their phones
In addition, patrons can plan to grab a bite from a variety of food vendors throughout the event serving barbecue, Caribbean dishes, sweet treats, smoothies and more. Meanwhile, on-site bars will be serving Pedal Haus beers, Crown Royal canned cocktails, energy drinks and water throughout the night. Refreshments can also be found in numerous local restaurants along Mill Avenue.
