The magical Debbie Heifitz Porter leads an interactive, casual family Shabbat service in Elliot Park each Friday this summer. Optional community picnic and evening service to follow. All are welcome!
New this summer! Bring your family to the lake, and welcome in Shabbat each week with the magical Morah Debbie. What makes Shabbat so special? We’ll give you the ingredients, with singing, dancing, stories, prayers, friends, and nature. As we come to the end of a long, busy week, take a deep breath as a family and as a community. This service is geared towards children 7 yrs. and younger, along with their parents and grandparents, but we think kids of all ages will love spending Shabbat with Morah Debbie!
No need to register- just bring a blanket or lawn chairs. Join us for our Community Picnic following the service (bring your own picnic dinner most nights, and some nights it’s a potluck), and after that, we invite you to stay for our camp-like Shabbat evening service at 7 pm. Be there for all, part, or none of the service—playing and running around is encouraged at Lakefront Shabbat! The ruach (spirit) and joy of a JRC Shabbat will stay with you in the week to come—it’s all about “fun Judaism”!
We meet from June 5-August 28 at Evanston's beautiful Elliot Park, with the following exceptions:
• June 19: We'll meet at Noah's Playground at Lighthouse Beach
• July 3: There will be no service this evening
All are welcome (including friendly dogs)! No need to be a JRC member.
Debbie Heifitz Porter is truly captivating with children and families. She has years and years of early childhood experience and is a beloved Kehillah (religious school) teacher at JRC.
• 5:30 pm: Young Family Shabbat Service
• 6:00 pm: Community Picnic (or potluck- check JRC calendar)
• 7:00 pm: Evening Lakefront Shabbat Service
