Joy and Brotherhood
For our 9th concert, we have laid out an ambitious program. Our theme is 'Joy and Brotherhood', celebrating our 75th Independence anniversary and freedom from colonial rule. It will be an eclectic combination of singing by Westchester Music of India Chorus Group, Hudson Chorale and Westchester Choral Society. They will be accompanied by specialized Indian instruments and Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra. This program will be in three parts:
1. First part is a collection of Patriotic songs celebrating the broad cultural heritage of Indians in America by our very own chorus.
2. Following 1 is a rare fusion of Sitar, Sarangi and Western orchestral music inspired by Ravi Shankar
3. After intermission we will perform one of the most admired western classical movement from Beethoven Symphony No. 9 called 'Ode to Joy'. Always sung in German, it has been translated to Hindi by our conductor explicitly for this performance. It will be sung by two local western chorus groups for the first time ever as an historic world premiere event.
