Veteran public radio reporter Shannon A. Mullen will detail the process of writing her first book, about Maine's current and first woman governor, Janet Mills, and a young mother who sent her weekly handwritten letters of support through the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mullen's intensely timely book features the letters as well as unedited excerpts from the governor's personal journals, in a narrative that celebrates the power of human connection as well as the nature of and burdens of true leadership. Mullen filed news and feature stories for national programs on public radio for two decades, including Morning Edition, All Things Considered and Marketplace. Her work has also been published by The New Yorker, The Boston Globe and Boston Magazine, among other outlets. Free event. RSVP required: https://charterbookstore.com/form/rsvp
