Jencks' celebrated voice soars in any theatre with his mostly original songs, rich musical narratives ringing with soul, groove and grit. From coffeehouses to festivals to Carnegie Hall, Jencks leaves his indelible mark on the American music scene, singing and telling stories that illuminate, uplift and resonate in the heart of listeners.
For 2 1/2 decades as an international touring musician, the award-winning songwriter and celebrated vocalist has been widely celebrated for performances of musical beauty, social consciousness and spiritual exploration. Merging conservatory training with his Irish roots and working-class upbringing, the dual Irish-U.S. artist deftly blends well-crafted instrumentals and vivid songwriting. His lyric baritone voice echoes with gorgeous tone and an edgy richness - or as one audience member put it, 'that stunning voice just rings from the rafters!'
Jencks has penned several #1 folksongs, including the ever-relevant, oft-requested “Lady of The Harbor,” and has become a fan favorite throughout North America. He co-founded and was primary vocal arranger for the blockbuster trio Brother Sun, which fused folk, blues, roots, pop, jazz and a cappella song in an explosion of musical diversity that toured the U.S. and Canada through 2017.
Jencks has released 17 albums to critical acclaim. He served as Cultural Ambassador with the U.S. State Department and recorded with the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. Much in demand as a vocal harmony arranger, he has logged over 40 appearances as a guest vocalist and arranger on studio recordings, bringing a uniquely rich sound to the works of other artists. He has appeared onstage with innumerable fellow performers and on our stage has drawn standing ovations with Holly Near, Susan Werner, Brother Sun, Deirdre McCalla. In August he wowed the audience as part of the WAMC-fm "On the Road" concert in Central Park.
