Jill Sobule and Ellis Paul, both accomplished singer-songwriters, join forces for an exceptional co-bill event at Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem, PA. Jill Sobule, known for her deeply personal and socially conscious work, has been a trailblazer with hits like “I Kissed A Girl” and “Supermodel.” Meanwhile, Ellis Paul, celebrated for his poetic storytelling, is recognized as one of the defining voices of American songwriting. Together, they promise a Sunday matinee filled with diverse melodies, thought-provoking lyrics, and a shared passion for the art of storytelling. Jill Sobule’s work is at once deeply personal and socially conscious, seriously funny and derisively tragic. In a dozen albums spanning three decades of recording, the Denver-born songwriter/guitarist/singer has tackled such topics as the death penalty, anorexia nervosa, shoplifting, reproduction, the French Resistance, adolescent malaise, LGBTQ issues, and the Christian Right. Her hits include “I Kissed A Girl”—the first openly gay-themed song ever to crack the Billboard Top 20—and the alt-rock anthem “Supermodel” featured in the film “Clueless”. Her latest, “F*ck 7th Grade”, was postponed due to Covid, but was performed and filmed for three days at a make-shift drive-in over the Summer. The musical is a finalist for the Lambda Literary awards in LGBTQ Drama category this June. Ellis Paul is one of those gifted singer/songwriters. Though some may refer to him as a folk singer, he is more, for lack of a better word, a singular storyteller, a musician whose words reach out from inside and yet also express the feelings, thoughts and sensibilities that most people can relate to in one way or another, regardless of age or upbringing.
