Poet Jesse Nathan reads from his recently released collection alongside local poets and friends of the store Bill Carty and Gabrielle Bates. Eggtooth is a poet's account of growing up and coming of age in red- and blue-state America.
Jesse Nathan grew up in northern California and rural Kansas. He teaches literature at UC Berkeley and was a founding editor of the McSweeney's Poetry Series. His poems have appeared in the Paris Review, the Nation, the New York Review of Books, and elsewhere. Eggtooth is his first book.
Gabrielle Bates’s poetry has appeared in The New Yorker, Poetry, American Poetry Review, and other publications. A writer, visual artist, and cohost of The Poet Salon podcast, Bates is originally from Birmingham, Alabama, and now lives in Seattle, Washington. Her collection Judas Goat (Tin House, 2023) is available now.
Bill Carty is the author of We Sailed on the Lake and Huge Cloudy, which was long-listed for The Believer Book Award. He has received poetry fellowships from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Artist Trust, and Hugo House. Originally from Maine, Bill lives in Seattle, where he is Senior Editor at Poetry Northwest and teaches at Hugo House, the UW Robinson Center for Young Scholars, and Edmonds College.
