Water -- suddenly (and now continuously) we are hearing all about water and how a lack of proven supply could shut down our communities; some have lost their water supply completely. Meanwhile, plans to build five open-pit mines in the Santa Rita mountains will -- according to the Canadian mining company Hudbay -- need 4.8 billion gallons of water a year to operate. The same plans also call for producing 128 million gallons of sulfuric acid that will be trucked out of the area every year. Welcome to the next not-so-great idea
