Jane Addams and the Women of Hull-House
Jane Addams (1860-1935) was one of the foremost women in America at the turn of the 20th Century. From her base at Hull-House in Chicago, Addams gathered a team of college-educated women to tackle the problems that faced America: child labor, immigrant’s rights, woman suffrage, and fair labor conditions. Some of the other women who worked out of Hull-House included Florence Kelley, Alice Hamilton, Julia Lathrop, and Grace and Edith Abbott. Hull-House was more than a residence, it was an incubator for progressive activism.
