“Slow down, our sages advise, slow down all the way to the pace of stone and shadow.”
- Diane Ackerman (World Enough & Time, On Creativity and Slowing Down)
James Ong invites us to Slow Down to wonder and ponder as we experience his eclectically created artworks. His hope is that we are inspired to take the time to create our own art. Focusing on the creative process, James usually does not know what he will create, only that it will be interesting and challenging.
James is inspired by Eastern philosophy and aesthetics, especially Zen Buddhism and Japanese art and design. These sources of inspiration help him to free his imagination and create like a child at play.
He was a quiet, curious, and observant child who liked to read and think. After working as an engineer, James attended the Academy of Art College, where he received an MFA in Product Design. Art school was an eye-opening and mind expanding experience for James. His creations include marble toys, construction sets, sculptural blocks, mobiles, and paper sculptures.
James Ong’s imagination can be seen at Viewpoints Gallery (Los Altos) and Iwasawa Oriental Art (Los Gatos). He is a member of abstract7 and Allied Artists West.
“I want to create thought-provoking, memorable experiences for others using art and design.” - James Ong
