J. Bryant II Art Exhibit

In celebration of Holyoke’s 150th birthday, Holyoke Heritage State Park is proud to host the works of someone who has made this city his home. Pieces created by J. Bryant II will showcase in the Exhibition Hall of the park’s visitor center from April 1, 2023 until May 31. Open house to meet the artist is Saturday, April 8th from 1:00 to 3:00. Through his medium of color pencil & ink as well as illustrative marker & watercolor the artwork of J. Bryant II expresses the beauty of uniqueness and a vivid view of the simplicity of the shared moment. He states, "I believe art should inspire joy in the individual who looks upon it and each time this is accomplished, it brings much relief and gratitude for the opportunity to share the love and spirit of imagination with one and all." The artist has shown his work in multiple venues including: • Bourne Gallery of Illustrated Art in Wareham, MA-1996-98 • Jan Collins Selman Gallery of Fine Art in Falmouth, MA-2004-05 • 3rd Annual Brick Co-Work Art Event in Holyoke, MA-2016 • 25th Annual Spring Art Exhibition in Monson, MA-2018 “In celebration of Holyoke’s 150th birthday, we are thrilled to kick off a series of changing exhibits with a Holyoke resident and frequent visitor to the park,” said Nancy Condon, Visitor Services Supervisor. “James is an extremely talented yet humble creator of vibrant illustrated art.” The park’s Exhibition Hall has been an underused venue to showcase artwork in the past. “This is a special year for Holyoke” Condon states. “As a type of birthday gift to the residents and visitors to Holyoke, we are exhibiting various works of expression in the space for everyone to enjoy throughout the year. And as always, our doors are open free of charge.” Other upcoming exhibits include: • July – Winners of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Junior Duck Stamp artwork competition. • August – Stephen Lewis poster collection of indigenous people • September - Artwork submitted to the “Future of Holyoke” contest sponsored by Holyoke Preservation Trust. Besides the traveling exhibit space, Holyoke Heritage State Park Visitor Center hosts permanent exhibits depicting waterpower, mill industries, Mountain Park, and immigrant lives. Public programs and tours are also offered throughout the year. A complete listing of children and adult programs and further park information is available at the park’s website. (https://www.mass.gov/locations/holyoke-heritage-state-park) Holyoke Heritage State Park is located at 221 Appleton Street in Holyoke and is accessible by PVTA public transit.
