The Windsor ferry started in 1894. It took cattle and people – and later, cars - across the Genesee River from Charlotte to Irondequoit, and back again. The trip took seven minutes and cost 5¢. Captain Andrews lived on River Street in Charlotte and was at the helm for over 30 years without ever having had an accident.
