Introduction to Swing Music
The Alexandria Citizens Band's Swing Band, joined by instructors from Gottaswing, will be showcasing exciting music from the Swing Band era and beyond! Come to the Leonard "Chick" Armstrong Recreation Center for some toe-tapping music and to learn how to dance.
At 2pm, instructors from Gottaswing will demonstrate beginning dance steps and demonstrations. Come learn from amazing instructors as they take you through the basics of swing such as - six-count patterns, the eight-count Lindy Whip and Circle, the side-by-side and Back Charleston, lead-and-follow skills, transitions, and more!
Then at 3pm, come inside to listen to the Swing Band. You can put those newly learned swing dance moves and dance to the music along with the Gottaswing instructs!
The event is a free, family-friendly event! No matter your age or knowledge of swing music, this will be a fun and exciting afternoon for all!
