Introduction to Nålebinding with Christin Curran

Nålebinding (or nalbinding), also known as needlebinding or “Viking knitting,” is an ancient fiber craft that predates knitting by over seven thousand years. Nalbinding fragments have been found all over the world, including numerous Viking settlement excavations. In this introductory course we will explore the history of nalbinding, learn how to make a start, stitch basics, notation, and working in the round. Students will leave the class with a finished wrist warmer or small pouch and a basic knowledge of this endangered heritage craft. Nalbinding needle and wool yarn are included in class fees.
