Tapestries are woven wall hangings that can feature shapes, abstract lines, textured yarn, and curated colors. We will cover: Weaving materials, their uses, and where to find them; Basic weaving stitches, knots, and patterns; And how to get a weaving on and off a loom.
Price: $123.00 for 3 classes - July 15/22/29
Required age: Over 15 years old on the day of the activity
Notes: Supplies:
Students bring their own supplies. The ArtsCenter has 8 lap looms that students can use; please email [email protected] to let us know if you're bringing your own loom so that we can plan accordingly!
What do you absolutely need to bring? A frame/lap loom, cotton warp thread, and yarn.
Recommended:
- Small lap loom/frame loom with pegs or slits
- 3-4 colors of yarn ideally that are medium/bulky/super bulky/jumbo (weight 4-7)
- 100% cotton warp thread
- 1 metal jumbo darning/tapestry needle
- 1 or 2 12 to 18 inch rulers
- 1 pair of small sharp scissors (fabric scissors preferred)
- 1 0.5-2 inch dowel or stick long enough to hang your weaving on
- 1 fork, hair pick, or weaving comb
Optional:
- 1 6 inch large wooden tapestry needle
- 1 12-16 inch wooden flat pick-up stick
- 1-2 colors of roving
