Indian Movie Mini Festival
Join us for a festival celebrating Indian culture through movies. The Indian Mini Film Festival, hosted by Kennedy Heights Arts Center in partnership with S.O.S. Art, is an exciting opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of India.
Films:
Sunday, August 11 – 11 am to 2 pm:
“The Missing Rainbow,” by Gita Hudson (documentary that explores the various Indian Tribal and Folk artistic traditions and the instrumental role of women in keeping them alive for hundreds of years)
“The Seeds of Vandana Shiva,” by Camilla and James Becket (tells life story of Gandhian eco-activist Dr. Vandana Shiva)
Sunday, August 18 – 11 am to 2 pm:
“Andhivaanam (Twilight),” by Gita Hudson (documentary about artist Natrajan, lead member of Neelam, an organization which celebrates Dalit (oppressed class) through Arts. He and his partner, run an art school for children from the downtrodden communities in Tamilnadu)
“The Price of Free,” by Derek Doneen (follows Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi and his team through secret raids and quests for missing children)
Sunday, August 25 – 11 am to 2 pm:
“Yog Darshan – The Story of Yoga,” by Dr Kanniks Kannikeswaran (tells the story of Yoga through music and visuals covering a diverse range of literary sources in Sanskrit and Tamil spanning 3 millennia and the entire range of India)
“Awake: The Life of Yogananda,” by Paola di Florio (biography of Hindu mystic Paramahansa Yogananda who brought yoga and meditation to the West in 1920)
After the screenings, stay for a post-film discussion to share your thoughts and insights.
The screenings are open to the public and tickets are complimentary. FREE tickets are available now on a first-come, first-served basis at the theatre box office (not available online).
