In My Mind, an exhibition by Skylar “Scky Rei” Reed. The opening reception is April 7, 2023, 6-9 p.m. during first Friday in Benson.
Reed, a decorated music artist, and well-versed graphic designer, seeks to break into the Omaha visual arts scene with In My Mind, his first ever solo show. He pulls influence from Japanese anime, combining the creative style with his cultural upbringings in North Omaha. Reed described his work as, “Black anime themed pop art.”
In My Mind opens on April 7 and runs through April 28. The BFF Gallery is located at 5901 Maple St., Omaha, NE 68104, in the structure of the John J. Mercer Masonic Temple. Gallery hours are Saturdays 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and by appointment.
Skylar “Scky Rei” Reed is a multi-dimensional artist who explores pop culture and his love of anime, which he reinvents into his vision of Blackness. While he currently resides in St. Louis, MO, Scky Rei was born and raised in North Omaha. It is here that he found inspiration from his roots and culture, which led to him winning awards in music and film. Scky Rei has collaborated with The Dojo Studios, Malcolm X Foundation, Opera Omaha, Hi-Fi House, KidNation, The Art Hype, and more.
