Honoring a Veteran: Englewood Native Burt C. Wyman

On this Veterans Day, photojournalist, synthesist and Navy veteran Chris Wyman will discuss the fascinating story of his uncle, Englewood native Burt C. Wyman, who in 1944, gave his life for his country in France during WWII. The program will take place in the Mackay Room at 2 p.m. Growing up, Chris and his family had photos, wings and medals that belonged to Burt. It was not until 73 years later that Chris received an email that cemetery volunteers had not only pinpointed the exact location of his uncle's crash site, but had also uncovered parts of the airplane, parts of the pilot’s seat belt and his badly-burned wristwatch.  In the months that followed, Chris received the wristwatch and over 30 pounds of airplane debris from the crash site. He also discovered never before recognized photographs of his uncle taken during the war, which were preserved by the U.S.-based Fourth Fighter Group and the British-based American Air Museum.  Chris has recently received additional photos from France as well.
