GIRLS WITH GUNS: SECRET HONG KONG MOVIE MADNESS!
From 1985 to 1993, Girls with Guns movies dominated Hong Kong movie screens. With B-
movie budgets, breakneck stunts, and high caliber action they were celebrations of sisterhood,
served with a side of hot lead. These movies didn’t just pass the Bechdel Test, the destroyed it,
with men mostly playing lazy boyfriends or evil creeps, while women got all the good parts. So
welcome back to an era when women with machine guns ruled the Hong Kong box office,
strutting down the street in stone-washed jeans, an uzi clutched in each nail-polished fist. –

Tonight we shall celebrate two of the most highly regarding of these films, as well as several of
the kickass women who made villains shiver with their spitting of bullets and spilling of blood.
Which movies, you ask? Which women? Sorry, only those who attend this event – and live to
tell the story – will ever know!
