Calling all Bagginses and Boffins, Tooks and Brandybucks, Grubbs, Chubbs, Hornblowers, Bolgers, Bracegirdles and Proudfoots!
O’Brien’s Bookshop in downtown Midlothian is pleased to announce the celebration of Hobbit Day 2025. The official day is Monday, September 22, but since they are closed on Mondays, the celebration will be held Saturday, September 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is a family friendly event.
Hobbit Day attendees can enjoy a hobbit hole photo booth with props, table games, the opportunity to burgle treasure from the dragon’s lair, easy trivia at 2 p.m. and hard trivia at 3:30 p.m. with prizes, a costume contest with prizes, and more. In addition, all Tolkien-related items will be on sale for 20% off. Participants are encouraged to dress as Middle Earth characters.
According to the National Day Calendar*, “The American Tolkien Society first proclaimed Hobbit Day and Tolkien Week in 1978.” Hobbit Day commemorates the birthdays of two of author J.R.R. Tolkien’s best loved characters, Bilbo Baggins and Frodo Baggins.
