History and Legends through Song
On Saturday, July 19th the Swansea Historical Society will present the duo Sultana performing their program, "History and Legends through Song” at the Swansea Community Center at 260 Ocean Grove Ave. in Swansea at 6:00pm. The program of songs and history visits some fascinating historical or legendary characters and events from historic New England as well as from ancient Mesopotamia and Medieval Europe to modern times. Some of the subjects may include the first known author, a character from Arthurian legend, an epic medieval battle, the first museum, a renowned radio broadcast, and more. “History and Legends through Song” is part of the series “Live Music Making History Live.”
Sultana is Jon and Li Waterman. Both songwriters and musicians, they have performed their music and history programs in venues throughout New England as part of a series called Live Music Making History Live. The series was designed to encourage the celebration and exploration of history through music. The program is supported in part by a grant from the Swansea Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
