DESCRIPTION: The program opens with the unique opportunity to witness the world premiere of The Grand Song, composed by Huang Ruo, whose previous work has drawn praise from the New York Times. Headlining the concert is composer Tan Dun’s Crouching Tiger Concerto from Ang Lee’s Academy Award-winning film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which will be performed by HSO principal cellist Mark Votapek. Under the visionary direction of conductor and music director Dane Lam, HSO brings us to a captivating finale – Gustav Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth). World-renowned tenor Warren Mok and critically acclaimed mezzo-soprano Stacey Rishoi give voice to Mahler’s work, telling the story of life, death and nature.
