Hawaiʻi Nature Center and Hawaiian Ultra Running Team (HURT) will host its second annual Rainforest Ramble, a fun run and educational experience for children, ages 6 to 14, and their families on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Hawaiʻi Nature Center in Makiki Valley’s rainforest.
Cost to register is $25 per child with up to 5 kids from the same family. Parents are free. All fees will be donated to the nonprofit Hawaiʻi Nature Center in support of its environmental education programs, which connect children and families to nature through hands-on learning experiences. Register here: https://hurthawaii.com/race/rainforest-ramble-2026/
Participants may choose between a 1-mile or 2.4-mile course through the rainforest trails of the Makiki Trail System. After the Ramble, keiki can continue exploring the natural and cultural history of Makiki through hands-on, place-based learning stations led by Hawaiʻi Nature Center educators. Activities will invite young participants to match animal footprints, explore the difference between natural and human-made forms, and learn how Makiki stones were traditionally used as octopus lures. The activities also highlight the cultural connections and trading networks that linked the ahupuaʻa from uka to kai.
The event begins at Hawaiʻi Nature Center 2131 Makiki Heights Drive in Honolulu and festivities include giveaways such as Haimont keiki hydration vests and items from Patagonia Honolulu. This event is sponsored by Kapiolani Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Hawaiian Ultra Running Team.
