We've all sifted the sand between our toes on the beach, but not quite the same way Wes Box does. Wes sees things a little differently than the rest of us, and his approach to wine is no exception.
Surfing waves off Ocean Beach, Wes sees the beach as a combination of massive forces grinding, sifting and carrying shells, quartz, feldspar, and rock fragments pulverized and eroded from the Sierra Nevada and Coast Ranges. He walks vineyards in the delta the same way: looking at the geological tourists deposited on the shores. It's all about finding the elbows and resting places that capture and hold our volcanic and alluvial viticultural gold. We are just learning, Wes knows, we are just beginning to understand the deep secrets of our land. We are in the very early stages of understanding how to express our most magical terroir.
A hard-knocks Somm with a palate honed through a decade of cellar-room education, Wes has a bloodhound's nose for good soil and a passionate drive to deliver the results in his bottles. Every coastal wandering and long hike is part of his effort to understand what he calls 'the frequency of the land' and how that might resonate through a vine. While we all have childhood dreams, Wes is living his out: he gets to share his love for his home and the stories it tells through every wine he makes.
Doors open at 5 PM, Wes will pour and discuss his wines in detail from 6-7 PM, and hold an open Q&A from 7-8 PM. He'll be pouring tastes of his 2023 Hills and Valleys Kerner from Lodi, 2024 Black Roses Queen of Hearts from Russian River Valley, 2023 Black Roses G.S.M from the North Coast, and 2021 'Sir Ras' Reserve Syrah from Bennett Valley. Drop-ins welcome though we appreciate your RSVP! We hope to see you here!
