Global South Movements Opening Reception
Green Space Miami is proud to present Global South Movements. Curated and produced by Miami artist Tiffany Madera, Global South Movements invites you to experience an all-woman program of 8 artists and 5 mediums to celebrate the landscape of cultures of Miami, Africa and the Caribbean.
Global South Movements is Green Space Miami’s 2023 heritage program. Every year Dr. Kimberly Green invites a leading cultural expert to exhibit, discuss, educate and celebrate the art and traditions of Miami’s diverse communities. In 2023 Tiffany Madera brings the community together for a vibrant series of events about women, film, and dance.
The exhibit is at once a retrospective of 20 years of Hanan Arts groundbreaking use of use of traditional middle eastern dance as a tool for social justice, reimagined with new works discussing resistance, the body, cultural inheritance, fluidity, identity, and gender. With large format photos, drag camp performance, immersive video, live music, photography, and weekly “activations” the exhibit will engage the five senses and anchor its themes into the body for community healing and transformation. The range of artwork and themes addressed will transport the viewer into the more mystical and energetic realms prominent in Global South cultural expressions, ignite the intellect, and induce reflection.
